If you’re thinking what is personalized yoga, it’s just what the name says.  Any exercise,  including yoga in my opinion needs to be personalized, as there are many things to take into consideration.  There is no age,  level of fitness that a personalized yoga practice can’t help.  If you have back pain one of the number one issues in this country there are so many things that can be done through personalizing a practice just for you .

To say that there is a one size fits all is unrealistic and potentially harmful.  I see people all the time in group classes looking around trying to do with the teacher is doing or the person to the right of them and they end up hurting themselves.  Back to personalized yoga, people come in all shapes and sizes, ages, levels of fitness, prior and current injuries or pre-existing conditions,  eating habits,  sleeping patterns and then of course there’s what we think about exercise and our bodies.  All of these things should be seriously considered on any given day to determine what’s right for you and your body.

The next time you go to exercise or a yoga class, a walk, a bike ride, whatever it is you do, think about how you feel in your body. If something doesn’t feel right as you’re moving (whatever movement) that’s your first sign to stop and perhaps rework it or do something else.  Starting to tune in to the feelings of your body and then personalize movements that work for you on any given day is a great first start for feeling wonderful and your body .
